Summary of duties – The Operations Welding Manager provides full oversight of all company personnel identified as welders or welder-trainees and is accountable for ensuring workforce qualifications meet applicable contractual and regulatory requirements. This position maintains and administers welder qualification and training records, verifying compliance with governing standards and project-specific requirements, and ensures certifications remain current and properly documented.

In coordination with the Quality Assurance (QA) Team, this role supports the development, implementation, and sustainment of welding-related processes, procedures, and controls.

This position requires extensive industry knowledge, advanced technical expertise in welding processes and metallurgy, and significant experience interpreting codes, standards, and customer specifications. The Operations Welding Manager serves as a subject matter expert to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality welding operations across all projects.

Specific description of duties –

  • Workforce Management & Administration: Directs and manages vocational workforce personnel, including hiring support, onboarding, training and skills development, certification tracking, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, workforce planning, scheduling, timekeeping oversight, employee relations, and compliance with company policies, labor regulations, and safety requirements
  • Daily collaboration with the Operations/ AIT management team: align qualified personnel with specific installation scopes, ensuring technical competency and procedural compliance are maintained throughout project execution
  • Daily collaboration with the Quality/ NDE team: Responsibilities include contributing to welding procedure specifications, qualification and training records, welder performance qualifications, audit support, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Accomplish routine visits to Project Site(s) to monitor progress, resources, and logistical needs, report findings, and set forth required corrective actions
  • Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives, and goals

Additional Skills and Duties

  • Must have comprehensive familiarity with NAVSEA drawings, including the ability to evaluate ongoing installation projects, estimate work scope, and support the development of technical documentation
  • Travel outside the local area may be required

Education / Experience/ Specialized training

  • High School diploma or GED mandatory
  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in the ship repair industry – specific to welding vocations
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable with:
    • Technical Standard 9090-310 (series) and the ability to apply it consistently.
    • NSI 009-12 Weld, Fabricate, and Inspect
    • NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AR-GIB-010/278 Requirements for Fabrication, Welding and Inspection, and Casting Inspection and Repair for Machinery, Piping and Pressure Vessels
    • NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 Requirements for Welding and Brazing Procedure and Qualification
    • MIL-STD-1689A Fabrication, Welding and Inspection of Ship’s Structure
    • MIL-STD-22D Welded Joint Designs
    • 802-VEN7094539 CVN 78 Class Aircraft Carrier, Vendor Version, Fabrication, Welding and Inspection of Hull Structure
  • Conclusive ability to interpret NAVSEA drawings and technical work-scope

Security Clearance –

  • Clearance up to secret may be required.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Physical/Environmental Job Requirements –

  • Ability to visit any shipboard location where Prism work-scope is performed, including virtually any shipboard location where our work-scope is accomplished, including mast platforms, and controlled access areas
