Position Title: Welder – TIGER Team

Location: Trident Maritime Systems – Newport News, VA
Reports To: Construction Manager – TIGER Team
Effective Date: Immediate Start/2-weeks
1. PURPOSE
To execute structural and pipe welding with first-time-quality in support of module fabrication for U.S. Navy vessels, ensuring adherence to Safety, Quality, Cost, and Schedule objectives.
2. POSITION SUMMARY
This position welds foundations, structural assemblies, and pipe systems supporting CVN, VCS, and ORP module construction. Welders complete craft qualification through Welding School and maintain procedural compliance for NAVSEA/NNS acceptance, supporting TIGER Team readiness and production execution.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
· Perform tack, fillet, and full-penetration welds on carbon steel and alloy materials.
· Execute welding in all positions using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW.
· Meet nondestructive test acceptance: VT, MT, UT, RT.
· Support schedule-driven execution.
· Operate safely in elevated, restricted, and confined space environments.
· Maintain equipment and complete arc maintenance tasks.
· Participate in morning standups and readiness reporting.
· Uphold all TMS, our customer and NAVSEA process controls.
· Support rework elimination and first-time-quality strategies.
4. EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Must Have Requirements:
· Minimum one (3) year welding experience OR graduation from AWS-accredited welding school.
· Ability to pass respirator fit testing and physical agility assessment.
· Able to work assigned shifts, overtime, heights, and confined spaces.
· Able to kneel, squat, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and lift minimum 40 lbs.
· Able to work in all weather environments.
· Must pass background investigation and drug screening.
· Must pass TMS procedural testing and training.
Preferred Experience:
· Shipyard structural or pipe welding experience (NNS, Ingalls, etc.).
· Navy combatant ship experience: CVN, VCS, ORP.
· Familiarity with modular shipbuilding and Navy acceptance.
5. CERTIFICATIONS & PROCESS COMPLIANCE
· NAVSEA Tech Pub 271.
· NNS Process Specifications 1688 and 1689.
· OSHA 10 Maritime, Confined Space, Firewatch (or able to obtain).
