2013 JUNIOR TRADESMAN OF THE YEAR

The winner of the 2013 Junior Tradesmen of the Year award was announced at the May General Membership Luncheon meeting. This year’s award went to Mr. Steven Pulliam with Oceaneering International.

Mr. Pulliam is an Outside Machinist.  He was recruited to be a core member of the Shop Mechanical Team due to the high quality of his workmanship.  He is a mentor to the Freshman class of the Apprentice Program where he works.  He created a form that concisely documents deficiencies in components that are received for refurbishment which has been instrumental in reducing the number of hours required to create a Condition Report by at least 25%.  He has been selected as both Employee of the Month, Employee of the Quarter, and nominee for Employee of the Year.  This process involves being nominated by your peers and then being selected by a Board from all of the other nominees.  He is very generous in helping others, for example, he maintains lawns for an elderly couple in his community and a military family whose husband is deployed overseas.

VSRF also recognized the following nominees for Junior Tradesman of the Year:

  • Brandon Meekins (Epsilon Systems Solutions)
  • Jesse Tullis (AIT Marine Inc.)
  • Greyson Bailey (General Dynamics NASSCO – Earl Industries)
  • Geneva Duffy (BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair)
  • Erik Chappell (Tecnico Corporation)

All of the nominees received a certificate recognizing their significant contribution to their trade. Mr. Pulliam will also be recognized at the National Maritime Day reception on May 22nd at the Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center at Nauticus in downtown Norfolk.
