Health Care Reform Requires Changes to VSRA Optima Association Plan

The Affordable Care Act, requires that all health plans with less than 50 employees must comply with a common set of benefit requirements.  This means the popular Optima Association Plans will no longer offer additional “Value Added” benefits starting 1/1/2014.  The current value added benefits include a $5 reduction in the doctor’s office co-pays along with additional free Employee Assistance Program (EAP) visits.  These benefits will no longer be included effective with your company’s first renewal on or after 1/1/2014.

This unfortunate change only affects companies with 2 to 50 employees.  Companies insured through the Optima VSRA association plan with more than 50 employees are able to keep the value-added benefits.

There is no action you need to take at this time.  The change will automatically be included in your 2014 renewal from Optima.  Although the value-added benefit is gone, your association will continue to receive the monthly marketing payment from Optima for each employee enrolled with Optima through the association.
