Rep. Scott Rigell Gives Insight on Budget

Congressman Scott Rigell, the December Membership Luncheon Speaker, presented information about the Bipartisan Budget Act, which was passed by the House of Representatives in early December, and passed by the Senate several days later.

The Bipartisan Budget Act includes $63 billion in sequester relief over a period of two years. The Act also establishes defense discretionary spending in Fiscal Year 2014 at $520.5 billion, and reduces the deficit by approximately $23 billion.

Rigell also said that developing Virginia’s coastal energy would create 25,000 new jobs, providing new revenue and a diversified economy.

Rigell is serving his second term as a representative for Virginia’s Second Congressional District; one of his priorities is controlling federal spending.
