OSHA 10-Hour Maritime #7615

The OSHA 10-hour course awards the 10-hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course 7615 in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to shipyards. In addition, ship yard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. The completion card is valid for 5 years at which time the course must be repeated. Our instructors a OSHA accepted certified to conduct this class and grant the award of certification cards. Cards are issued through the Instructor’s certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.

Human Resources Committee Meeting

Contracts Committee Meeting

The Contracts Committee will meet the first Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m., at the VSRA Offices, 101 W. Main Street, Suite 5500 (5th Floor East), Norfolk, VA  23510.  We are located in the World Trade Center building.

NAVSEA Cableway (June 18-22)

Over the past few years many of our members have requested the Cableway Certification Training. After looking at many options, we are finally able to offer the NAVSEA Cableway Certification course. This course is under the oversight of AMSEC and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students. This training and certification provides students with the safety and knowledge to inspect ship cableways and identify and correct all category 1 & 2 discrepancies to include: the removal of dead-end cables; repair of wire way discrepancies; and the correction of all fire zone and water-tight discrepancies. The course provides 35+ hours of lecture, video, hands-on-lab work, and text based assignments over a five day period. A score 70% or higher on the comprehensive exam is required for successful completion. The course covers all NAVSEA requirements and skill sets in depth.

Blueprint Reading & Technical Drawing (June 12-15) (CANCELLED)

This course is designed for rising welders, pipefitters, ship-fitters, electricians and workers who need a working knowledge of blueprint technology, symbols and design features specific to ships.

Quality Management Board (QMB) Meeting

The QMB / Quality Assurance Committee  combined meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of every ODD month starting at 9:00 a.m., at the VSRA Offices, 101 W. Main Street, Suite 5500 (5th Floor East), Norfolk, VA  23510.  We are located in the World Trade Center building.  The QA Committee session will begin immediately following the QMB session.

VSRA General Membership Luncheon Meeting

VSRA Board of Directors meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, followed by a lunch meeting with the general membership. The guest speaker for June 19, 2012 will be Capt. Mary M. Jackson, Commanding Officer, NAVSTA Norfolk, who will present a Naval Station Norfolk "101" brief." The Chairman of the VSRA Board and the VSRA committee chairs report to the general membership at the monthly meeting, followed by a guest speaker's presentation. Each member company may have its designated representatives present at the general membership monthly luncheon meeting and is welcome to invite company guests.

High Performance Craft Expo (HiPer Craft) 2012

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) is proud to host the High Performance Craft Expo (HiPer Craft) 2012 on June 26-27, 2012 at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center. This special event will focus on suppliers, operators, maintainers and equipment vendors in the high performance boat and craft community.

NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector Preparatory

Preparing your students for the NBPI course saves your company time and money. The VSRA NBPI Prep course focuses on the areas students have the most difficulty in learning and passing on the Inspector exam. These areas are math, Standard Items 009-32 and applicable portions of 009-04, proper use of instruments and specific complex coatings documentation. Students will receive a copy of all materials in class, however they are HIGHLY encouraged to pre-read the applicable Standard Items prior to class to maximize their learning experience.

Emergency First Response (June 27, 2012)

Emergency First Response training is OSHA approved and internationally accepted.  This course meets the OSHA Guidelines CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.

Emergency First Response REFRESHER (June 28, 2012)

This is a 1/2 a day refresher course from 7:30am to 11:30am. The EFR Refresher course meets OSHA Guidelines 29CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.
