Machine Shop Foreman

Essential Roles and Responsibilities: Delegates workload to team members and maintains production schedules in a fast-paced work environment Schedules critical path components or long lead items that can impact delivery schedule or affect other trades Ensures compliance with safety procedures for the staff members and conducts safety training as necessary Must be knowledgeable of machining including lathes, milling machines, horizontal mills, surface grinders and drill presses Consumable management to reduce cost of production Sets up and operates to close tolerance (+/- 0.001”) using precision measuring tools Performs/oversees operations such as boring, milling, drilling, ridged tapping, and other operations Operates shop machinery such as overhead crane and forklift Reads, interprets, and understands product and process engineering drawings, procedures quality requirements and applies these to the work being performed Maintains and ensures all equipment is functional and identifies potential issues before the equipment goes down or affects production Works with minimal supervision, attends production meetings and completes all necessary paperwork Works with management to increase production and identify shop needs to increase profitability Must have a good attitude and be a team player Understands how a small machine shop operates making one-off parts Must be flexible in an ever-changing work environment with tight deadlines and emergent tasks Must have people skills and prior experience managing a team of craftsmen Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and terminating employees Responsible for documenting all employee issues Candidate is expected to be punctual professional and take ownership of their responsibilities
