FSG Master Tradesperson 3 (MSD Electrician) HII FLEET SUPPORT GROUP (0480) Chesapeake-Virginia-United States 27838BR External Job Description The selected candidate will be supporting our Marine Services Division working on the deck plates performing modifications, inspections and upgrades to electrical systems to assist with alterations and installs for fleet modernization on various contracts such as NUWC, SPAWAR and NSWCP. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country when not assigned to a local task. Per diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. There is potential to work up to 20 hours overtime a week. Position Specifics: Candidates must have the following to qualify for the position. • Must have experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical distribution systems in a marine and/or industrial setting. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance and base access/credentials. • Must be able to travel 50% of the time. Applies comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others. Performs a variety of complicated and non routine tasks. Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment. Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States. **$1,500 Sign on bonus available for candidates that hold a NAVSEA STD 009-123 Fiber Optic Certification upon successful transference of credentials. Preferred Qualifications • Candidates that hold a NAVSEA STD 009-123 Fiber Optic Certification and/or NAVSEA STD 009-073 Multi-pin Copper Certification are highly desired. • Prior Alteration and installation experience on surface ships and/or submarines is a plus • Experience in various contracts such as NUWC, SPAWAR, and NSWCP is preferred. - Learning the words and terms used in shipyards that aren't used in oher workplaces
- Learning about basic tools and their proper use
- Learning about the variety of trades jobs available so the worker can choose a position best suited to their interests
Education
These occupations usually require a high school diploma.

Job Training: Employees in these occupations need anywhere from a few months to one year of working with experienced employees. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
Qualifications
Candidates must have 6-8 years of experience in their trade for first class tradesmen positions.

Entry-level jobs require a minimum of 6-12 months experience working in a shipyard environment.
