Basic Purpose and Function:
This is a hands-on job that involves leading a small team of mechanics to perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of diesel engines and related equipment. Work is performed in shop and (primarily) on-board
customer vessels

reporting.
• Advanced knowledge of engine design and operation.
• Advanced knowledge of marine applications and propulsion systems.
• Advanced knowledge of engine diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs without supervision.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical/electronic systems maintenance and repair.
• Advanced knowledge of control systems configuring and operation.
• Ability to perform engine/component tests and record measurements.
• Ability to travel frequently (>70%) both domestically and internationally.
• Ability to work on seaborn vessels and in uncomfortable working environments for extended hours.
• Regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in
confined spaces.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 85 pounds.
• Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) internally and externally.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, and other related PC functions and programs.
• Ability to comprehend technical drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to work overtime as required.
• Ability to perform under duress from strict deadlines, with limited resources.
• Maintains an active state-issued driver’s license.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or legally allowed to work in the United States.
• Maintains personal supply of mechanical hand tools per FMS required tool inventory (to be provided prior to
employment).
Education, Certifications and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience as an engine mechanic or comparable role, required.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in marine applications, required.
• Current ASE Certification - L2 Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist or the ability to obtain.
• Must complete First Line Supervisor and Manager training as directed by Management.
Major Responsibilities (Functions/Duties):
• Leads a team of mechanics that performs installation, maintenance, diagnosis, repair and overhaul of marine
diesel engines and related equipment.
• Mentors/trains junior-level mechanics.
• Champions quality assurance and continuous improvements.
• Produces written and electronic reports containing inspection data, measurements, failure information, and
other job-related results.
• Performs tasks prescribed by work package procedure, schedule, and quality standards according to the project
statement of work.
• Complies with all FMS policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
• Responsible for the proper use, maintenance, and cleanliness of company and customer-furnished equipment
and facilities.
• Acts as a professional representative of FMS particularly when interacting and communicating with
customers and industry counterparts.
• Is accountable for timely and accurate expense management including labor charging and material usage.
• Performs other duties as directed by management.
